Wuhan Tianhe International Airport

【Project Background】

Wuhan Tianhe International Airport is one of the most important aviation hubs in Central China, with its Terminal 3 standing as a landmark building in Wuhan. To meet the water supply demands of tens of thousands of daily passengers and staff, while matching the quality standards of this "national key transportation hub" designed to last a century, the airport imposed extremely strict requirements on the hygiene, corrosion resistance, and service life of the water supply piping materials.
 


 
As a Hong Kong-listed company (Stock Code: 01116.HK) and a National High-Tech Enterprise, Guangzhou Mayer stood out among many competitors and became the designated supplier for this project, thanks to our position as a contributor to national standards, our end-to-end in-house production quality control, and our internationally recognized WRAS certification.
 

 

【Products & Technical Application】
To ensure the absolute stability of the T3 terminal‘s water supply system under long-term high-load conditions, Mayer customized a comprehensive piping connection solution.


1. Double Press & Grooved Connection Technology
Mayer supplied a full range of pipes from DN15 to DN200. Small-bore pipes (DN15-DN100) used Double Press Connection, which offers high seismic resistance, leak-proof reliability, and easy installation, while eliminating water contamination from welding oxidation. Large-bore pipes (DN125-DN200) used Grooved Connection, significantly improving construction efficiency.

 

2. High-Grade 304 & 316L Stainless Steel
For the airport‘s complex water environment, Mayer supplied high-quality 304 stainless steel pipes for standard water supply needs. Meanwhile, 316L stainless steel — which contains molybdenum for superior resistance to chloride corrosion — was used in specific areas with high temperatures or higher corrosion resistance requirements, perfectly ensuring water purity and safety.

3. 100% End-to-End Quality Control & Traceability
All pipes and fittings used in this project were made from raw materials sourced from China‘s top five steel mills. From steel coil slitting, tube manufacturing to fitting forming — the entire process was completed in Mayer’s own 55,000㎡ factory. Every finished fitting features a traceability code, achieving true traceability from raw material to final product.

 

 
【Results & Significance】

Wuhan Tianhe International Airport Terminal 3 officially opened in 2017. As part of the phoenix-shaped design symbolizing “bright stars and a soaring phoenix over the sky”, Mayer‘s stainless steel piping system — hidden behind the walls — acts as the “blood vessels,” efficiently and stably delivering clean water to this super-large transportation hub, with no incidents of leakage or water contamination.

The success of this project not only proves that Guangzhou Mayer’s stainless steel piping system meets the stringent standards of super-large public transportation hubs, but also further consolidates Mayer‘s leading position in the national high-end public construction market. Beyond airports, Mayer has also successfully served numerous landmark projects including Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital and Beijing China Zun Tower.
