CITIC Tower Beijing (China Zun)

Beijing, China | 528m Height, 108 Floors Above Ground

Project Background

Located in the core area of Beijing CBD, CITIC Tower (commonly known as "China Zun") stands 528 meters tall, making it the tallest building in Beijing and the only super high-rise exceeding 500 meters located in an 8-degree seismic fortification zone in the world. As the headquarters of CITIC Group and a new landmark of the capital, it imposes extremely strict requirements on the quality, safety, and service life of building materials.

Challenges & Pain Points

In water supply systems of super high-rise buildings (exceeding 300m), pipelines are subjected to enormous static pressure and frequent water hammer shocks. Traditional plastic pipes (e.g., PPR) lack sufficient strength and are prone to deformation under high pressure. Ordinary metal pipes have poor corrosion resistance, leading to blockage at terminal water points due to rust during long-term operation, with extremely high maintenance costs. The project urgently required a piping solution that combines high strength, zero leakage, ultra-long life, and green environmental protection.

The Solution
Leveraging superior product quality,  Guangzhou Mayer Corp., Ltd. was selected as the core supplier for the stainless steel piping system of this project. We provided a differentiated material combination based on the functional areas of CITIC Tower:

1. 304 Stainless Steel: Widely used for the main water supply risers and branch pipes in standard office areas and public areas, ensuring structural strength and cost-effectiveness of the overall system.

2. 316L Stainless Steel: For the top executive floors, VIP areas, and specific equipment rooms with extremely high corrosion resistance requirements, we supplied 316L material (containing Molybdenum). Its excellent resistance to chloride ion corrosion perfectly meets the complex chemical environment and high temperature/pressure challenges of super high-rise building pipelines.

Mayer Core Advantages
In the execution of this project, Guangzhou Mayer demonstrated its strong capabilities as an industry leader:

1. Super High Strength & Anti-Water Hammer
The water pressure in vertical pipes of super high-rise buildings is extremely high, and the water hammer effect is destructive. Mayer stainless steel pipes have a tensile strength of over 520MPa, several times that of PPR pipes. With excellent impact resistance, they ensure stable operation for up to 100 years even in areas with severe pressure fluctuations like basement pump rooms.

2. Superior Corrosion Resistance & Hygiene
Using food-grade stainless steel coils, the inner wall is smooth, non-scaling, and free of leachates. The 316L material, in particular, effectively prevents chloride corrosion, eliminating "red water" and algae phenomena. It provides direct drinking water quality meeting international standards for the 12,000 office workers in CITIC Tower.

3. Strict Full-Process Quality Inspection
For the safety of fire protection and water supply in super high-rise buildings, Mayer conducts 100% online eddy current testing and 5.0MPa airtightness tests on each pipe, ensuring "zero leakage" under extreme high pressure. All products have traceability codes that can be traced back to the original steel coils.

Results & Value
CITIC Tower Beijing was fully completed and put into operation in 2018. The Mayer stainless steel piping system has been running stably, achieving excellent performance of "zero leakage and zero maintenance."

1. Safety Assurance: Successfully passed multiple fire safety inspections and extreme water pressure tests for super high-rise buildings.

2. Green Building: Contributed to CITIC Tower achieving LEED Gold certification. Stainless steel pipes are 100% recyclable, aligning with international environmental trends.

3. Brand Endorsement: The success of this project once again proves that Guangzhou Mayer is not only a representative of "Made in China" but also a preferred brand for global super high-rise building piping systems.
